CD Projekt RED begins development of new game “Witcher”

After Cyberpunk 2077 and its bumpy release, developer CD Projekt RED is getting back to basics with the announcement that they have started work on an all-new entry in the witcher series. The developer took to Twitter with the announcement, as well as their official website.

“We are happy to announce that the next episode of the witcher A series of video games are currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise,” says CD Projekt RED. The developers are also moving from their REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 for the upcoming game. The REDengine is currently being used for Cyberpunk 2077as well as its future expansion.

And no, despite the partnership with Epic, the next Witcher Game will not be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

For those who don’t know, the witcher is based on the series of six fantasy novels and 15 short stories written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Currently, you can find the latest main entry in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunton PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions coming later this year.

Also, on the Netflix front, the first spin-off series from the hit TV adaptation, The Witcher: Origin of Bloodshould be released later this year. Sarah O’Gorman (Cursed, the last kingdom) and Vicky Jewson (Near, born of war) will direct three episodes of each of the limited series.
