Subaru abandons the Legacy? Not for this year, at least. There seem to be concerns about Subaru sedans, but they’re holding their own. In fact, the new 2023 Legacy may be the best yet. Read on to learn more about the five 2023 Subaru Legacy trim levels available this year. Compare specs, features, security, technology and more to determine which is right for you.
Changes to the 2023 Legacy midsize sedan
The Subaru Legacy is one of the brand’s most reliable cars, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring (at least not all the time). For example, the new model brings some exciting changes for the 2023 model year. These changes include a new standard turbo for the Sport trim level, exciting new safety features for the Touring XT model, and a new grille trim that covers range.
However, it looks like Subaru has dropped the Limited XT trim level for this year. The 2023 Subaru Legacy release date is expected to be in the fall, so look for it around November.
2023 Subaru Legacy Base
Starting price: estimated $23,995
Here’s a quick look at the Legacy Base 2023 specs:
- Standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
- EyeSight driver assistance technology
- SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia
- Steering responsive LED headlights
- 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower
- Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission)
While the affordable base Legacy trim level is one of the best cars for new drivers, it’s sparsely equipped. It’s one of the less expensive mid-size four-wheel-drive sedans, so it’s not a bad deal.
However, for near or more than $23,000, you’ll miss out on power-adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Subaru Legacy Premium 2023
Starting price: estimated $26,245
Here’s a look at the quick specs of the 2023 Legacy Premium:
- All features included on the base model
- 11.6-inch STARLINK Plus infotainment system
- Electrically adjustable front driver’s seat
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Subaru All-Weather Package
- Heated front seats
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle
I’ve driven Subarus for 10 years, and I’ll tell you — always spring for the Premium. Still. It doesn’t matter what model you are looking for. The Legacy’s Premium trim level is hands down the best value if you’re not looking for anything too fancy.
It’s the least expensive model in the 2023 Legacy lineup to offer the all-weather package, so it’s well worth the cost.
Subaru Legacy Sport 2023
Starting price: estimated $29,790
Here’s a look at the quick specs of the 2023 Legacy Sport:
- 2.4-litre BOXER turbo engine developing 260 horsepower
- Red front grille accents
- 18-inch gray rims
- Interior in two-tone black and gray fabric
- Sports suspension
- Electric sunroof
- Navigation
The 2023 Legacy Sport trim level received some fun upgrades for the new model year. Namely, the 260 horsepower turbo engine is now standard on this model. That’s an increase of 78 horsepower over last year’s Sport version. In addition, the new 2023 version brings eye-catching accents that stand out.
This fun turbocharged model, with unique sporty accents, is a serious competitor to the 2023 Honda Accord.
Subaru Legacy Limited 2023
Starting price: estimated $30,945
Here’s a look at the quick specs of the 2023 Legacy Limited:
- All features included on the Premium model
- Keyless entry with push button start
- Perforated leather seat trim
- Harman Kardon® premium audio system
- Heated rear outboard seats
The ultra-premium 2023 Legacy Limited trim level should start at nearly $30,000, but you get an incredibly well-equipped sedan for that price. Leather seats, grilled kiesters for your rear passengers, a high-end audio system and all the little extras of the Premium? Plus, of course, standard all-wheel drive.
2023 Subaru Legacy Touring XT
Starting price: estimated $36,695
Here’s a look at the quick specs of the 2023 Legacy Touring XT:
- All features included on the Limited model
- EyeSight wide-angle monochrome camera
- Front view monitor
- Ventilated front seats
- Electric sunroof
This fully equipped Legacy sedan is at the forefront of safety technology, as it is equipped with Subaru’s new EyeSight mono wide-angle camera for an unparalleled field of vision for the safety system.
In a huge surprise to me, the nearly $40,000 Legacy 2023 version is the only one that comes with a CD drive. Apparently people with big budgets also have big CD collections? Someone with a big budget, please confirm.
So which 2023 Legacy trim level is right for you? There are no wrong answers
