Just yesterday I went and did a regular reboot of the PC (I had no problems before), when it restarted I noticed that explorer.exe kept crashing (?), thus the desktop was not loading
I’m stuck on a white screen with a basic taskbar flashing repeatedly, the same problem occurs in safe mode
It is possible to open an explorer window and view files normally, but at the same time the desktop keeps flashing
Also, the normal Windows user interface (logins, ctrl alt del) is replaced by a terminal-based system (LogonUI.exe)
Things I tried:
-sfc /scannow
Stops at about 71% of the verification phase and says “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation”.
– DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Stops at ~52% and says “Error: 605 The specified buffer contains malformed data”
– Startup Repair
says “Startup Repair could not repair your PC”
– access Regback
The folder was empty (?)
-chkdsk c: /r
4 hours wasted
– netsh winsock reset
seems to have done nothing
– I tried renaming BannerStore to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
Doesn’t seem to have done anything either, is just recreated
– Unable to figure out how to create a separate profile (from the control panel)
Errors with message “class explorer.exe not registered”
– The “File Explorer Options” button in the control panel does not work
My PC is now pretty much unusable so I would really appreciate any help
